I proceed, in the next place, to enquire into the Religión of the Mexican Tribes, who succeeded the Chichimeca’s; and these, according to Acosta, de Solis, and other Spanish Writers of Figure, acknowledg’d one supreme God as well as Peruvians, and worshipped the Idol Vitziliputzli as the Image of this great God; But they contradict themselves in other Parts of their Histories; telling us, that Vitziliputzli was their Mars, or God of War; and that he had a Brother, named Tlalock, of equal Power; and that the like Prayers and Sacrifices were made before each of them.
